Starting from Llanfair Hill on Offa's Dyke we walk into the hidden valleys and woodland of the border country on tracks, quiet lanes and bridleways. Our route gives us far reaching views into Wales and back across the hills to the dyke.
These routes have been used by generations of people in this remote part of Shropshire: the width of tracks and verges indicate the passage of flocks and herds of animals driven to market in England and in Wales. After our ramble through the valleys we ascend through pasture towards Stoney Pound and back to Offa's Dyke.
We continue via Brook House and along the lane to the crossroads (a landmark in the Malcolm Saville adventure story "The Secret of Grey Walls") to walk back to Clun via Llwyn. There will be time for a visit to Clun Castle and a short stroll around the town before the coach returns us to Bishop's Castle.
